Dan Bankhurst is one of the most exciting young fingerstyle guitarists on the scene today, and recently released his first album of solo acoustic arrangements entitled 'At First Sight'. Recorded and produced by Grammy nominated guitarist Pete Huttlinger at his Nashville Studio, 'At First Sight' includes ten of Dan's original compositions and his own arrangements of the well-known songs "Just The Way You Are" by Billy Joel, "Moondance" by Van Morrison, and "Isn't She Lovely" by Stevie Wonder.
Growing up in a family of guitar players, Dan became enamored with the guitar at a young age and has since dedicated himself to becoming the best player he can be. Dan's early influences were mostly rooted in electric blues and rock in the styles of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert King, and Jimi Hendrix. As a teenager he began to branch out into jazz, and acknowledges George Benson, Joe Pass, and Django Reinhardt as major influences to this day
About two years ago, Dan heard Chet Atkins play for the first time and was immediately hooked. He immersed himself in learning as much as he possibly could about Chetís amazing technique, phrasing, and beautiful arrangements, which then led him to discover the great Tommy Emmanuel. Dan has also gone back to study some of the original masters of the style such as the incomparable Merle Travis and Jerry Reed. He continues to be inspired by their playing and diligently works on creating his own unique style blending traditional fingerstyle guitar with a more contemporary approach.
In September 2013, Dan won the International Home of the Legends Thumbpicking Competition at the Merle Travis Center in Powderly, Kentucky.
