Canadian born (June 1st, Calgary) Melanie Dekker with ‚a voice like chocolate‘ will tease you, unease you and sometimes play ten more just to please you. The concerts are carefully crafted, spontaneous and musically diverse.
A variety of pro accompanists tour with her from Violinists to Electric guitarists. Dekker started singing as a teenager because she was moved by live performers and it became her passion to want to do the same. „I want to move you ...“ she says with a somewhat mischievous look in her eye. Melanie Dekker has performed for President William J. Clinton, shared the stage with Diana Krall, Faith Hill & Bryan Adams, and she was up for humanitarian artist & video of the year at the LA Music Awards 2008. Over Christmas 2009 Dekker sang in Afghanistan to sing for troops. In between touring in 2010 she recorded an uplifting & colourful new album called „Here & Now“; the songs carry messages she pondered throughout her travels.
In the past two years her 200 concerts included shows in Finland, USA, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, The Czech Republic and Canada. Melanie energizes her audiences with the playful and potent messages in her songs.
Her writing style is a little like Milow meets Sheryl Crow. She sings about attraction, longing and confusion, and some songs have introspective insights where comedy meets tragedy or where lightness is brought to the dark. Her percussive style guitar playing has many fans ask her ‚how do you do that?!‘, and if there‘s a piano in the room she plays her ballads with her long fingers cruising along its keys.
“It feels great to be on the edge of wonder and even better to capture it ... I‘m so lucky you‘re all listening!“ Melanie
